The blog was started in December, 2006. Nothing has been posted yet, and I am still adding the template bells and whistles. Its purpose is to complement the website package of traditional website, forum, and discussion group.

Internet Traffic Magnetism
Blogs have more google juice than other web formats. The NSCSS News and Views blog, if managed well, can capitalize on this to build traffic to other NSCSS projects and increase NSCSS visibility in the process. It does this primarily by being very friendly to search engines. That friendliness is achieved through crawlable URLs, inbound link magnetism, fresh content, active community, directory listings, the ease of pinging those directories with new content, and the ease of social tagging.
Crawlable URLs
Blog software has an uncomplicated URL structure, making it fairly easy for search engine spiders to find and crawl blog content.
Inbound link magnet
One of the biggest benefits, blogs link freely to each other - much more than web sites do. Blogs are also a significant source of many posts to social news and social media web sites. Text, audio and video are all easily supported for syndication by blogs. The more media available, the more likely it will attract incoming links. Additionally, there are many widgets and plugins that make it easy to share blog content, thus encouraging links and traffic.
Fresh content
Both readers and search engines reward fresh content with repeat visits. From a search engine perspective, that means your site can be crawled more frequently, allowing your new content to become search-able more quickly. Fresh content is also indicative of a more authoritative web site.
Active community
Comments and trackback features in blog software encourage interaction. An active blog community creates the kinds of citations or signals from other sites (annotated and contextually relevant links) that search engines tend to reward in the rankings. Loyal blog readers can boost a site’s visibility through advocacy on other blogs, in forums offline at conferences as well as on their own blogs and within the comments of your blog.
Directory listings
Inclusion in popular Blog and RSS directories is a bonus benefit.
Ease of pinging and tagging blog directories.
The ability to ping multiple websites when publishing fresh content is a plus. Some software allows you to ping hundreds of blog directories in a few seconds using their tools. With or without hyper pinging ability, social tagging complements search engine functions in that tags are essentially search key words. Tagging through the following sites can generate significant traffic in ways not as available to the forum, email discussion list or website.
A wiki is an easy-to-use Web site that makes it profoundly easy to collaborate on projects. This wiki has been made public to allow anyone to read it, while still restricting editing to those who know the wiki's password. Edits are done in plain text and don't require learning fancy or complex codes like HTML. Just click Edit page and start typing! It's also easy to create new pages and make links to pages you've already made.
Where do I start?
Passwords, available to NSCSS members, will be emailed on a regular interval. Regular users are encouraged to create a permanent “PBwiki Identity” by visiting http://my.pbwiki.com. These users won't be affected by periodic password changes.
